The results generated in this project will enhance Australian research capabilities across multiple disciplines by providing access to key knowledge of pollen and spores in our region. A unified approach to the archiving, presentation and accessibility to existing and evolving databases will provide a considerably improved context for identification and knowledge pooling of any given pollen or spore type. This will create a nexus for novel interactions between researchers and end users of these data from within and beyond Australia's borders.Read moreRead less

The Internet of Things (IoT) together with the rising popularity of smartphones opens a new world for many exciting opportunities. The overall goal of this project is to develop new algorithms and data analytical techniques in an IoT environment that can accurately monitor and analyse personalised daily activities on a continuous, real-time basis. The expected result of this project will support many critical applications such as better wellness tracking and lifestyle-related illness prevention, which will be particularly critical to Australia's aging population. This project will also serve as a vehicle to educate and train Australia’s young scholars and engineers.Read moreRead less

Summary
Efficiently querying uncertain spatial space. Location-based services are becoming increasingly popular due to exponentially increased usage of smartphones and cheap wireless network. This project aims to provide efficient solutions for various location-based queries applicable to different travelling domains such as road networks, Euclidean space with obstacles and indoor space.
Probabilistic search over large-scale uncertain graphs. Efficiently conducting structure-based search is fundamental in many real applications. The project aims to develop effective searching techniques for large-scale imprecise and/or uncertain graphs. This project will develop, analyse, implement, and evaluate novel indexing and query processing techniques to efficiently conduct structure-based probabilistic queries over large uncertain graphs, including structure search, structure similarity ....Probabilistic search over large-scale uncertain graphs. This project will develop, analyse, implement, and evaluate novel indexing and query processing techniques to efficiently conduct structure-based probabilistic queries over large uncertain graphs, including structure search, structure similarity search, all-matches, vertex-pair similarity search and top-k search. The success of this project will be an important complement to the current development of graph database management technology and will bring considerable social, economic and technological benefits to Australia.Read moreRead less

Summary
Continuously monitoring uncertain objects in a multi-dimensional space. The project aims to develop novel, advanced techniques to continuously monitor uncertain objects. The success of the project not only brings breakthroughs in technology development but also provides training for high quality personnel in this important and growing area, and brings considerable economic and social benefits to Australia.
Computing with nearly-consistent data. This project will help programmers correctly use data that originates at various times and places, and spreads unevenly through a system. Computation will combine data that comes from different situations, and is not exactly consistent. Capability to develop high quality software on platforms with this feature will enhance the value of the Australian IT industry. As well, the industries which use the software benefit from correctly working with their data. ....Computing with nearly-consistent data. Sensor networks have data like this, and they play a vital role in environmental monitoring. Cloud computing platforms also have this type of data, and these allow smaller enterprises to grow smoothly, without needing large up-front investments in computing infrastructure.Read moreRead less
Scalable Composition and Deployment of Business-to-Business Web-based E-Services. The ubiquity of the Internet offers far reaching opportunities for

emerging Web applications. Separate businesses may be linked into a virtual enterprise that provides a one-stop shop for users. However, there is no model available for managing electronically accessible
services (e-services) in a systematic manner which make them easy to compose and deploy. Our research proposes to address the fundamental issues related to fast and scalable composition of e-services in Web-based environments. We propose novel concepts for integrating a large number of dynamic and loosely coupled services. Another distinctive feature of our approach is the peer-to-peer collaborative execution of services.Read moreRead less
Efficient processing of distance-based spatial queries on multi-valued objects. This project aims to develop effective and efficient algorithms to analyse large scale multi-valued objects. The success of this project will not only be an important complement to the current spatial database systems but also bring considerable economic and social benefits to Australia.
Effective and efficient record linkage with transformation rules. Record linkage is an enabling technology for organisations to identify and remove 'redundant' entries in their databases; this helps prevent data quality problems that may cost millions. This project will deliver the next-generation record linkage methodology that enables cost and time economical linkage beyond what is currently possible.
