Assessing the Groundwater Dependence of Nearshore Coastal Ecosystems in the South East of South Australia. Groundwater in the SE region of SA is a valuable resource. The South East Catchment Water Management Board is responsible for planning sustainable management of these resources. The Board seeks to discover whether any marine ecosystems are dependent upon these groundwater resources, to inform their water-allocation planning decisions. This research combines field-based marine ecology with ....Assessing the Groundwater Dependence of Nearshore Coastal Ecosystems in the South East of South Australia. This research combines field-based marine ecology with groundwater hydrology to assess the influence of groundwater outflow upon small estuaries, sandy beaches and lagoonal seagrass meadows that exist along the coastline from Kingston SE to the Victorian border. Our multidisciplinary approach will set a benchmark nationally and internationally for such applied research.Read moreRead less
A novel approach for economic uranium deposit exploration and environmental studies. Outcomes of this project will be: (i) the discovery of new economic uranium ore deposits; (ii) development of a new exploration technology allowing for improved ore deposit targeting. Information gained on the behaviour of radioactive elements at the Earth's surface will be critical for the study of safety issues related to radioactive waste storage and obtaining reliable time constraints on the evolution of the ....A novel approach for economic uranium deposit exploration and environmental studies. Sustainability of aquifer storage and recovery: the effects of nutrient load and water quality on aquifer clogging. Aquifer storage and recovery, ASR, stores excess water or treated effluent for subsequent beneficial use. Microbial and geochemical reactions can through clogging reduce aquifer permeability, increase pumping cost and may threatened the sustainability of the system. The relationships between injectant composition and biological geochemical clogging are poorly understood. Expanding ....Sustainability of aquifer storage and recovery: the effects of nutrient load and water quality on aquifer clogging. Expanding on prior field and column studies and techniques this project will study geochemical and microbial processes at on well-instrumented ASR trial site in South Australia. The relationship between effluent composition and change in hydraulic conductivity will be quantified, with a view to developping generic, practical decision-support tools and improve predictive model.Read moreRead less
