    Integrating technological and organisational approaches to enhance the safety of roadworkers. Across Australia about 50 people are killed and 750 are injured in crashes at roadworks each year, costing hundreds of millions of dollars. Integrating technological and organisational approaches to enhance the safety of roadworkers. Across Australia about 50 people are killed and 750 are injured in crashes at roadworks each year, costing hundreds of millions of dollars. Making roadworks safer is a complicated task, involving multiple organisations as well as the motoring public. This project will develop and evaluate an integrated program including research into new technologies, testing of strategies to improve organisational and safety culture, and investigation of education approaches. At a time of unprecedented spending on improving Australia's road infrastructure, this research will contribute to ensuring the safety of the workers directly involved in the road improvements necessary to achieve major long-term economic and social benefits.
