This is the critical missing technology needed to unleash exponential growth in a potentially enormous drone delivery industry by enabling a multitude of applications to deliver goods and supplies via drones to a wide range of destinations in Australia and the world in a timely, flexible and accurate manner. Such an autonomous landing solution would revolutionise drone technology, and propel Australia to the forefront of technology innovation. This project would benefit not only large scale delivery by drone in urban and suburban areas of Australia but also long distance delivery via drone to remote areas of Australia.Read moreRead less

Demand on wireless traffic is estimated to increase more than one thousand-fold in the next 10 years. As existing networks are quickly becoming overloaded, this project aims to improve radio spectrum utilisation by harvesting temporarily unused spectrum holes to accommodate future traffic. The proposed spectrum harvesting system is cost-effective as it will rely on a software that runs on users' devices to sense and report spectrum holes to mobile service providers. An unprecedented communications framework that incentivises both users and service providers to harvest and trade/share radio spectrum holes will be developed. It will reduce the costs of the radio spectrum, allowing cheaper and better mobile data services for the Australian public.Read moreRead less
Decimetre-level indoor positioning on Wi-Fi. This project aims to exploit both spatial and frequency diversities based on the multiple-input, multiple-out and frequency hopping techniques to achieve the goal of decimetre-level position accuracy by significantly increasing Wi-Fi bandwidth. This project aims to exploit both spatial and frequency diversities based on the multiple-input, multiple-out and frequency hopping techniques to achieve the goal of decimetre-level position accuracy by significantly increasing Wi-Fi bandwidth. Wi-Fi positioning is utilised in locations where GPS is blocked, typically this is within a structure. The project will design a set of mechanisms to facilitate Wi-Fi positioning, discover key principles to guide practical design, and develop advanced algorithms to push the performance limit to decimetre-level accuracy. The project will develop key fundamental technologies which are expected to promote innovative, practical, and cost-effective applications to local industry and service sectors and contribute to Australia's long-term economic growth.Read moreRead less

This project aims to develop a novel framework to detect content and privacy malpractices perpetrated by thousands of mobile apps. It will use innovative models and algorithms to achieve unprecedented levels of automation and scalability, making it possible for the first time to identify compliance violations across the global app ecosystem. Outcomes will include a knowledge base of prevalent app malpractices, detection algorithms, and a software framework for scalable app analysis. New evidence and tools will benefit both Australian and global policymakers and regulators in combating malpractices, users in identifying safe mobile apps for themselves, and local and global app market stakeholders in being more diligent about compliance.Read moreRead less
