Record linkage aims at matching records of the same entity (like customer or patient) in large (administrative) databases. The outcomes of the proposed research will improve current techniques in terms of efficiency, accuracy and the need for human intervention. Through experimental studies and stochastic modelling the performance of traditional and new methods for data cleaning, standardisation and linkage will be assessed. The effect of the statistical dependency of attribute values will be studied. New methods using clustering for blocking large datasets, and predictive models including interaction terms will be implemented, analysed and evaluated on high-performance computers and office-based PC clusters.

This project aims to develop innovative techniques for effectively and efficiently managing user preference profiles from less labelled, sparse and noisy interaction data. A unified novel learning framework along with a set of data analysis techniques are expected to be developed from this project, which will provide a non-intrusive way of conducting predictive analysis on user preference profiling via discovering human explicit and implicit interest domains. The expected results of this application will not only maintain Australia's leadership in this frontier research area, but also support many important applications that safeguard Australian people and economy such as cyber security, healthcare, and e-Commerce.Read moreRead less

This proposal will enable online accessibility to the largest collection of pollen and spores information in the Australasian region that is currently located at the Australian National University. This will be a searchable database that is accessible over the web and suitable for professional as well as the technical novice involved in pollen and spore identification. Novel approaches to the federation of other smaller existing pollen and spores databases will result in The Australasian Pollen and Spores Atlas. The Atlas will be a flexible and powerful knowledge management tool applicable to research development by a wide range of users including those within the archaeology, biology, geology, and airborne allergy specialists.Read moreRead less
