It seeks to ascertain how local courts represent Indigenous women's experiences such as family violence and family responsibilities and the quality of information before sentencing courts. This project investigates the nature and extent of problems faced by Indigenous Australians trying to access the birth registration systems within Australia. Following extensive consultation with Indigenous communities and other key stakeholders, this project will identify the causes of the problem and recommend appropriate solutions.

Law reform initiatives seek to foster ways of including Indigenous knowledge to resolve matters that come before the law more effectively, as well as redress social disadvantage. This project assesses existing programs in the courts and builds institutional capacity providing for more positive engagement with Indigenous knowledges on law and society.
