The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Enhancing our understanding of metallochemistry in neurobiology with modern electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Many neurological diseases involve protein accumulation that appears causally linked to abnormal levels of metal ions in the brain. This project will use a special technique called electron paramagnetic resonance to uncover how these metals interact with specific proteins at the molecular level and how drug treatments can modify these interactions.
Moral frontiers: When the needs of humans and nonhumans collide. Decision making about resources is not simply based on human needs alone. Issues relating to animal rights, biodiversity, and environmental protection weigh heavily in these debates. These issues are receiving increased attention at a time when the human (over)population of the planet is already placing pressure on scare resources, creating conflict between the needs of humans and non-humans. It is along our moral frontiers where these conflicts will erupt and the rights and needs of humans and non-humans alike are given merit or discarded. This project will examine the psychological processes involved in extending moral concern to non-humans and the benefits and costs of this extended morality for the satisfaction of human needs.Read moreRead less

The proposed program will make an internationally significant contribution to the fundamental understanding of soft matter on the nanoscale. This has a direct impact upon processes that are key to a wide range of Australian industries ranging from the manufacture of functional foods to minerals recovery to pharmaceutical formulation, where innovative solutions can substantially improve productivity, increase export potential and reduce environmental impact. The outcomes of this work, in the form of high impact papers and conference presentations, will build and enhance Australia's reputation as a world leader in nanotechnology and colloid science. This project aims to identify new techniques for incorporating cell-signalling triggers into macromolecules, therefore enabling the development of next-generation stimuli-responsive nanoparticles that can emit signalling molecules on demand. Harnessing nanomaterials to stimulate specific sub-cellular processes is a neglected area in nanotechnology research. These nanoparticles could potentially be used to deliver signalling molecules for agricultural, pharmaceutical and veterinary applications. The project is expected to develop a new suite of materials that could ultimately be used to improve the yield of important commercial crops, or revitalise the use of medicines limited by their poor side effect profile.Read moreRead less
From neuroscience to society: A multi-disciplinary study of human perception and cognition. This project aims to use a multi-disciplinary approach to investigate the factors influencing human perception and cognition - from the level of basic neuroscience, through to the wider impact felt by individuals and society when these functions are either impaired or enhanced. This will inform the basic research question of how the brain generates a conscious experience, identify the relationship between ....From neuroscience to society: A multi-disciplinary study of human perception and cognition. This project aims to use a multi-disciplinary approach to investigate the factors influencing human perception and cognition - from the level of basic neuroscience, through to the wider impact felt by individuals and society when these functions are either impaired or enhanced. This will inform the basic research question of how the brain generates a conscious experience, identify the relationship between altered visual cognitive function and clinical symptoms of psychosis, and determine the current prevalence and neuroethical issues associated with the non-medical use of drugs to enhance cognitive or perceptual function within Australia.Read moreRead less
The systems biology of stem cells. Using new bioinformatic methods, this project aims to identify new classifiers of different stem cell populations, develop statistical models that address population heterogeneity and provide molecular predictors of the differentiation potential of stem cells. Understanding, predicting and directing the processes of differentiation are major goals in the disciplines of stem cell biology, developmental biology, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Molecular atlas projects have successfully revealed rules of genome output and regulation, by mining patterns that are evident across multiple cell types and datasets. By applying this philosophy to relevant, well-curated stem cell experiments, this project aims to create new methods for the integration and interrogation of smaller individual datasets. These methods should have broad utility and enable new avenues in tissue engineering.Read moreRead less

Majorana fermions – particles that are their own antiparticles – play a key role in future quantum technologies such as fault-tolerant quantum computers. Being considered only as a mathematical possibility over the past 75 years, they might be surprisingly materialised owing to recent rapid experimental advances. In collaboration with the world-leading cold-atom laboratories in Australia, China and the USA, this project aims to pave a new direction to create and manipulate Majorana fermions towards realistic atomtronics devices, by using the highly controllable setting of ultracold atomic Fermi gases. This research complements the search of Majorana fermions in solid-state devices.Read moreRead less
The systematic development of fundamentally important group 15 compounds: their applications to innovative industrial and environmental processes. The strong coordinating ability of organo-phosphorus/arsonic acids will be harnessed to support a series of metallic clusters that will be exploited for their use as magnetic materials in gas storage and as catalysts. The novel acids will be investigated for use as water soluble purification agents for, for example, mercury, uranium and lead.
Studies on the regulation of the pro-apoptotic protein Bim in mammalian development and cancer. This project is aimed at understanding the regulation of a gene, which is a tumour suppressor and is often mutated or down regulated in many different forms of cancers. A better understanding of how this gene works may eventually lead to better therapeutics to treat these cancers. This project is aimed at understanding the regulation of a gene, which is a tumour suppressor and is often mutated or down regulated in many different forms of cancers. A better understanding of how this gene works may eventually lead to better therapeutics to treat these cancers. This is relevant in the Australian context given that our aging population and obesity epidemics (the link between obesity, insulin resistance and various forms of cancers is well established) are leading to a rapid increase in new cancer cases, thus driving a rapid increase in demand for better treatments. This is particularly relevant in Indigenous health where obesity is on the rise following the transition from a traditional to an urban lifestyle.Read moreRead less
