2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Complete the 5 min survey now by clicking on the link below.

Ricci flow has attracted major attention in pure mathematics over the past 30 years, including ground-breaking contributions by Perelman on Ricci flow regarding the famous Poincare and Thurston's Geometrisation Conjectures. The project focuses on the complex version of Ricci flow: Kahler-Ricci flow. The project plans to explore the Kahler-Ricci flow in the closed and complete non-compact settings and the corresponding versions of Geometric Minimal Model Program; and the Kahler-Ricci flow in the Fano manifold setting and stability conditions.

Counting points on algebraic surfaces. This project aims to develop algorithms for calculating the number of solutions to polynomial equations and to compute zeta functions of certain types of algebraic varieties. Existing algorithms cannot solve these problems. The new algorithms will enable researchers in number theory to test and refine conjectures on generalisations of many famous problems, such as the Sato-Tate conjecture, the Lang-Trotter conjecture and the Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture .... Existing algorithms cannot solve these problems. The new algorithms will enable researchers in number theory to test and refine conjectures on generalisations of many famous problems, such as the Sato-Tate conjecture, the Lang-Trotter conjecture and the Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture. The project will also have a flow-on effect in other areas of mathematics and computer science where zeta functions play a central role, including cryptography, coding theory and mathematical physics.

Diagram categories and transformation semigroups. A structural understanding of diagram categories is essential in many branches of mathematics and science. Despite this, very few methods for studying such categories are available, a fact this pure mathematics project seeks to rectify. By building strong bridges between diagram categories and semigroup theory, a field of abstract algebra that models transformation and change, the structure of diagram categories may be unlocked with powerful semigroup tools developed by the applicant investigator. Diagrammatic insights will also yield new ways to study semigroups, and the many other mathematical structures they interact with. Outcomes will have a lasting impact on both theories as well as the many fields influenced by them.

Explicit methods in number theory: Computation, theory and application. This project aims to use explicit estimates to unify three problems in number theory: primitive roots, Diophantine quintuples, and linear independence of zeroes of the Riemann zeta-function. It will use computational and analytic number theory to reduce the quintuples problem to a soluble level. Pursuing relations between the zeta zeroes will overhaul many current results. This project will apply its findings about primitive .... Explicit methods in number theory: Computation, theory and application. The Spectral Theory and Harmonic Analysis of Geometric Differential Operators. The project will involve mathematical research of the highest international standard in two very active and far-reaching field of mathematics: quantum chaos, and harmonic analysis. Progress in these fields will have implications in areas such as communications technology (e.g. image compression), quantum theory, and mathematical analysis (e.g. partial differential equations).

Algebraic evolution and evolutionary algebra. Algebra and biology have developed in extraordinary ways over the last half century yet, to date, the use of algebraic ideas in biology has been limited. This project will address this by modelling evolutionary processes in bacteria using algebraic ideas.

Enriched categories: Applications in geometry and logic. The project aims to apply enriched categories to fields including algebraic and differential geometry and theoretical computer science. Enriched categories, introduced in Australia in the 1960s, underlie major mathematical results such as Grothendieck’s revolutionary work in algebraic geometry. Emerging scientific areas like higher differential geometry and homotopy type theory urgently need the formalism of enriched categories to be made applicable to them. Success in this could rapidly develop these areas and solidify Australia's position as a leading international force in mathematics.

Topology is the mathematical study of the shape of spaces. Geometry endows spaces with additional structure such as distance, angle and curvature. Moduli space encodes the different ways in which a geometry can be assigned to a space. Expected outcomes of the project include construction of computable invariants, solution of realisation problems and understanding degeneration of geometries.

    Summary
Algebraic categories and categorical algebra. Algebra is the study of operations, such as addition and multiplication, and the relationships between these operations. This project will study two exciting new branches of algebra, quantum algebra and postmodern algebra, which will lead to important advances in physics, geometry, and computing.
