Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the intellectual structure of coopetition through utilizing a citation and co-citation analysis of scholarly articles focusing on coopetition. The authors conducted bibliometric analyses of citation and co-citation analysis. The units of analysis were original research articles and research notes retrieved from journals indexed by well-known databases. Keywords used in the search were “co-opet, co-opet, coopetition, coopetition, simultaneous cooperation and competition, simultaneously cooperate and compete, coexistence of cooperation and competition, coexistence of cooperation and competition, cooperate and compete simultaneously, coopetitive relationships, coopetitive relationships, coopetitive networks, horizontal alliances, cooperate with competitors, cooperation with competitors, cooperative relationships with competitors, cooperative competition and competitive cooperation.” Regarding the time period for publication of the s le articles, the authors did not place any restrictions. The research findings provide evidence that coopetition demonstrates multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary characteristics. Subfields of the coopetition field were identified based on the components of coopetition, which are relation, process and strategy. The component dealing with relationship management and innovation as strategy become prominent. Although coopetition literature has emerged as a relation view of strategy, it is still fragmented and erse. Additionally, the robust subfields generated from the analysis were super-positioned with low degrees. This is one of the few studies offering a critical review of coopetition research via quantitative research approach.

Abstract: This study evaluates lodging-context research by addressing the trend in the number of journal publications and the most prolific contributors from 1990 to 2016. To this end, data were collected from 16 leading academic journals. The study results suggest that the number of lodging-context articles from 1990 to 2016 increased significantly and that among the 16 leading journals analyzed, the International Journal of Hospitality Management and the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management were the two most productive journals in publishing lodging-context–related articles. Contributors were identified according to author, institution, and country. Regarding lodging operations classifications, hotels appeared to be the most researched organizations while marketing was found to be the most studied research topic, followed by strategic management. This is the first study offering a bibliometric analysis of lodging-context research in our field.

Abstract: The COVID-19 crisis provides an opportunity for sustainable renewal and requires responsible leaders who are responsive to stakeholder needs and able to innovate in light of new challenges. This study draws on stakeholder theory and responsible leadership theory to examine (a) the challenges industry leaders face as a result of COVID-19 and (b) their innovative responses in light of their responsibilities to stakeholders and society. We conducted a corpus linguistics study based on high-volume media websites reporting tourism and hospitality news on leadership and innovation. We applied a stakeholder and social responsibility lens to the data analysis. We discovered that, despite the challenges that leaders faced, some transcended self-interest or integrated self-interest with consideration for the interest of others and formed partnerships with other stakeholders resulting in win-win solutions. In particular, we found evidence of leaders who (1) responded to the needs of owners, employees, customers, and community stakeholders and (2) developed not only incremental innovations but substantial ones benefitting stakeholders in business and society. We discuss responsible leadership as a pathway for transforming the tourism and hospitality industry towards a more sustainable and community-centred ‘new normal’. Based on our findings, we present recommendations for future research and policymakers.

Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyze the conceptual structure of lodging-context research. In this regard, 2,632 articles published between 1990 and 2016 were analyzed utilizing network analyses. We find that the knowledge domain of lodging has been expanding, with greater focus on the business and economic activities of hotels. As the network density is low, lodging as a field is at a relatively early growth level and it is open for multidisciplinary collaborations. Articles related to strategy, marketing, and human resource management are relatively mature and well developed. However, some areas such as resource-based view, and cruise business still remain undeveloped and immature. Moreover, as one of the first studies in this field, this work provides an inclusive evaluation of the results, limitations, and suggestions for future research.

Abstract: This study looks to the answer of whether importers and exporters can develop relational trust and minimize the monitoring and control costs used to prevent opportunistic behavior in a trust relationship. Despite increasing scholarly interest in calculative and relational trust, the boundary conditions affecting the transformation of calculative trust into relational trust remain unaddressed. In response, this study aims to investigate the boundary conditions for the emergence of relational trust in inter-organizational relationships between Chinese exporters and Turkish importers. Data were collected from Turkish SMEs that import from China. To measure trust between parties, semi-structured interviews with top managers and/or decision-making company owners were conducted. Interview questions covered three categories: antecedents of trust, ways of developing trust and outcomes of trust. Results indicated that inter-organizational relationships between Chinese and Turkish firms lack relational-based trust. Most trade transactions between two parties are based on calculations of profit/loss, and Turkish firms use intermediary mechanisms to overcome lack of trust in this environment. The most important boundary conditions for the emergence of relational trust are behavioral uncertainty, the opportunistic behavior of Chinese suppliers and language and cultural barriers. This study contributes to the existing literature by addressing the hitherto unaddressed question of what the boundary conditions are for the transformation of calculative trust into relational trust.

Abstract: The study aims to investigate if lodging research suffers from a method bias by comprehensively reviewing the research methodology used in lodging related research articles. In all, 2,647 published papers in 16 leading hospitality and tourism published between 1990 and 2016 are analyzed using bibliometric technique. In all, 69% of the empirical studies in lodging research across 26 years period used quantitative methods, with an increasing reliance on regression-based analysis and structural equation modeling, a disturbing plunging trend in methods ersity. Findings also suggest an increasing trend of using secondary data. Based on the findings of this study, theoretical and practical implications for hospitality and tourism researchers are provided. This is the first study that reviewed a large corpus of published research (2,647 papers in 16 hospitality and tourism journals from the last 27 years) to highlight (a) methodology used, (b) methods employed and (c) data collection and analysis procedures.
