Abstract: It is well accepted that moisture ingress in concrete reduces durability and life span of water assets. Condition assessment is an important tool to inform decision for maintenance, retrofit or replacement. However, the most significant challenge is to obtain accurate condition information, particularly when the inspection points are physically difficult to access or inaccessible. Therefore, a reliable and cost-effective monitoring (sensor) system, preferably real-time with ability to streaming online, would be a useful management tool, particularly for water utilities. This paper describes an approach to develop a distributed optical fibre humidly sensor for condition assessment and environmental monitoring both inside and outside of infrastructures, such as inside the concrete and surrounding soil. A new polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM) coating with higher sensitive was evaluated for relative humidity measurement in soil and concrete, respectively. In this study, two simulated conditions, in concrete and soil, were conducted to evaluate the sensing concept with the development of appropriate measuring methodologies including fibre installation and protection. The optical fibre sensor setup in laboratory environment showed that optical sensor can detect and indicate voltage change with the variation of moisture contents in both soil and concrete. The test results indicate a good correlation between high levels of relative humidity/moisture and transmitted optical power. A simple relative humidity (RH) calibration can be used to convert signal to RH in percentage for soil and concrete measurements and the procedure used to imbed the fibre in both s les is effective. Nevertheless, the sensor measures soil humidity (not moisture content) therefore, further investigation is required to identify the consequence for the variation of the measured parameter.

Abstract: The high operation cost of green building, insufficient informationization and automation management capability, and the lack of effective operation cost control seriously restrict the development of the industry and the realization of green goals. In order to solve the problem of insufficient capability of green building operation cost management, based on the digital twin technology in the manufacturing field, we analyze the characteristic requirements and theoretical basis of green building operation cost management for system, propose a green building operation cost management system based on digital twin, and refine the design of each structural layer of this system. It is necessary to set up a series of lines, although it takes a certain amount of time. There are four types of applications, namely, the number of types of applications, the completion of the effective number, the comparison of functions, and the implementation capabilities. The study shows that the proposed system framework can improve the efficiency and quality of green building operation cost management through technology upgrade and process optimization. The implementation of digital twin and human-machine collaboration is an advanced stage in the development of digital architecture because virtual things and real things, materials, and numbers are mutually promoting processes. The inspiration of this technological view for architecture is that digital twin and human-machine collaboration not only allow the interaction between virtual and reality and emphasize the feedback of actual construction to virtual simulation but also promote a kind of mutual promotion of human and machine thinking and construction ability.

Abstract: As a critical node of the global transportation network, ports have great potential in promoting transportation emission reduction. Promoting the low-carbon transition of ports by using clean energy is effective. Using hydrogen energy in automated container terminals (ACTs) has become popular in port emission-reduction research. The research object is the main port equipment—the automated rail-mounted container gantry crane (ARMG). This research designs a staged investment decision-making scheme for ARMGs’ hydrogen energy transition. The Internet of Things (IoT) architecture in ACTs collects ARMG equipment operation and carbon emission data. It provides a basis for data acquisition in ARMGs’ hydrogen energy transition. Furthermore, ports can adopt big data technology to analyze the correlation between equipment operation and carbon emissions. Finally, the digital twin platform will visualize the ARMG equipment operation and carbon emission behavior to remote operators. These advanced technologies can achieve status monitoring and simulation prediction, which will support ARMGs’ hydrogen energy transition. However, the ARMGs’ hydrogen energy transition has a long cycle, large investment, and strong variability. Ports should make staged investment decisions based on the digital twin platform’s status monitoring and simulation prediction analysis results. Therefore, this research establishes an optimization model for ARMGs’ low-carbon transition investment decision based on the real options method, and analyzes the staged investment scale and timing of ARMGs’ hydrogen energy transition. The results provide a popularized decision-making scheme for the low-carbon transition of ports’ equipment, which could facilitate the low-carbon transition of ports’ equipment.

Abstract: The learning analytics community has matured significantly over the past few years as a middle space where technology and pedagogy combine to support learning experiences. To continue to grow and connect these perspectives, research needs to move beyond the level of basic support actions. This means exploring the use of data to prove richer forms of actions, such as personalized feedback, or hybrid approaches where instructors interpret the outputs of algorithms and select an appropriate course of action. This paper proposes the following three contributions to connect data extracted from the learning experience with such personalized student support actions: 1) a student–instructor centred conceptual model connecting a representation of the student information with a basic set of rules created by instructors to deploy Personalized Learning Support Actions (PLSAs) 2) a software architecture based on this model with six categories of functional blocks to deploy the PLSAs and 3) a description of the implementation of this architecture as an open-source platform to promote the adoption and exploration of this area.
