Implementation Of Quality Use Of Advanced CT Imaging In Acute Stroke

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $1,128,594.00
    Summary
Many centres now use advanced CT scanning techniques to assess stroke patient suitability for clot-dissolving treatment. However, there is major variation across Australia in the clinical application of advanced CT scanning techniques, which is a barrier to the delivery of this treatment. This project addresses the variation in CT imaging techniques by developing, piloting and evaluating the implementation of a standardised advanced CT scanning strategy for acute stroke patients.

Improving The Mental Health Outcomes Of People With Intellectual Disability

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $1,189,979.00
    Summary
Australians with intellectual disability (ID) have very high rates of mental illness but experience very poor access to mental health services. Our research will develop a sound evidence base on the profile of mental ill health, service use, pathways to care and mental health policy for people with intellectual disability. Together with consumers and support persons we will examine ways to improve mental health services for people with intellectual disability.

Developing And Implementing Systems To Optimise Treatment, Care And Support Among People Diagnosed With HIV

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $1,021,439.00
    Summary
Immediate treatment of people diagnosed with HIV infection has become a key public health intervention, based on recent evidence confirming treatment suppresses the virus to undetectable levels, and effectively eliminates the risk of transmission to sexual partners. Our partnership will identify and address barriers to accessing specialist HIV care and starting treatment among people recently diagnosed with HIV, and will contribute to Australia’s goal of ending HIV transmission by 2020.

Integration Of Exercise Counselling And Support Into The Musculoskeletal Help Line For People With Knee Osteoarthritis: A Mixed-methods Evaluation Of A Novel Telephone Service.

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $437,099.00
    Summary
Exercise is an important part of self-management for people with knee osteoarthritis, however access to qualified clinicians is limited for many Australians with knee osteoarthritis. In addition, most exercise providers are not adequately trained to motivate and support people to effectively incorporate exercise into their life on a long-term basis. This project will implement and evaluate a telephone-based exercise counselling and support service for people with knee osteoarthritis.

The focus of the Partnership Centre on Systems Perspectives on Preventing Lifestyle-Related Chronic Health Problems (the Prevention Partnership Centre) will be the inter-relation of health and non-health systems with regard to primary prevention and chronic health problems. Day-to-day, the Prevention Partnership Centre will concentrate on the range of programs, policies, funding structures, data systems, workforce capacities, evidence gaps, implementation experiences, collaborations, accountability mechanisms and even the language of prevention itself, that make it easier or harder to support healthy lifestyle choices and promote health equity. REACH: Researching Effective Approaches To Cleaning In Hospitals

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $657,862.00
    Summary
Healthcare associated infections are a major challenge for hospitals. Infections can spread via the patient environment, because colonized patients and staff can contaminate surfaces and equipment with micro-organisms. Cleaning is a vital component of patient care, but is a complex process with little real evidence to inform practice. This project will take a targeted approach to improving hospital cleaning to reduce infection rates; and examine the cost-effectiveness of this approach.
