Abstract: Fisheries management is characterised by multiple objectives, some of which may be complementary, while others may require trade‐offs between outcomes. Balancing these objectives is made more complex in the case of multispecies and multigear fisheries. In this paper, we develop a bioeconomic model that captures the key elements of such a fishery to test a range of potential harvest strategies to provide insights into how economic target reference points could lead to both desirable and undesirable management outcomes (e.g. discards). The model is developed as a long‐run optimisation model to identify target reference points to achieve multispecies maximum economic yield, and a dynamic recursive optimisation model, which includes more realistic representation of fishers’ behaviour, such as discards and trading of under‐caught species quotas. The potential economic, social and ecological impacts are evaluated using data envelopment analysis (DEA). The results suggest that the use of proxy target reference points can result in short‐term economic benefits at the cost of slower stock recovery and higher discarding. Limiting the number of species subject to quota controls may also prove beneficial in multispecies fisheries, while ensuring quota markets are efficient is likely to produce benefits irrespective of the harvest strategy adopted.

Abstract: Understanding behavioral responses of resource users to environmental changes and incentives created by management systems is imperative to implement effective resource management and development policies. A small-scale mixed fishery in the Maizuru Bay, Japan, provides a natural experiment to evaluate changes in small-scale fishers’ harvesting and targeting behavior over the years that one of the key species in the fishery experienced a collapse of the stock. Using data on in idual fishers across the pre- and postcollapse periods, we find that inefficient fishers were forced to shut down or stay idle along with the collapse of the stock, and this behavior led to an increase in the overall efficiency in the production of clams (Venerupis philippinarum). The depletion of the stock, however, imposed a natural constraint on the operation, resulting in a substantial decline in the maximum production achievable by the remaining fishers. We further show that the collapse of the stock not only affected the harvesting behavior against the declining species but also led to the expansion of the fishing capacity and effort to catch other species and the development of aquaculture as an alternative form of fish production in the region.

Abstract: The smart grid cyber-physical system and advanced metering infrastructure is an immensely growing term in industrial research based on the electrical power grid system and has uncovered an efficient paradigm for the power generation, transmission, and for the expenditure management as well. These systems allow home area networks and advanced metering infrastructure to communicate bi-directionally. False data injection is a new and climacteric security threat to the power grid to t er such important data. However, these communication channels that the energy service interfaces provide two-way communication according to the central control unit. Thus, for the security and robustness of the grid, it is critical to separate the false or infected data. The existing protocol on this problem is based on state estimation which is less secure and computationally expensive. In this paper, we propose a 2-way peg blockchain security system by providing a digital signature scheme between home area network device (Smart Meter) and AMI server to get authorization, providing an infected data detection algorithm based on fuzzy rule specification and 2WP based blockchain protocol and finally infected performance reputation updating algorithm by computing the probability distribution of uncouth level to detect the infected or compromised the. We get more efficiency and security by performing a detailed analysis.

Abstract: We studied how local environmental and socio-economic factors impact fish supply and the price outcome of small-scale fisheries. We exploited day-to-day variations in sea surface temperature (SST) and cross-sectional differences in market distance and age of fishers to measure consumers’ responsiveness to price changes in a small-scale octopus fishery in Japan. Using the estimated demand parameters, we quantified the economic consequences of local socio-environmental factors in terms of changes in fishing revenue and consumer surplus. We found that increasing SST and an aging workforce increase the octopus supply and that consumers are responsive to price changes due to such supply shocks. Our results suggest that increasing SST and an aging workforce have positive net effects on fishing revenue and consumer surplus within the fishery. The octopus fishery provides a temporary source of income in the off-season of other species, smoothing the seasonal income variation of elderly fishers in the community.

Abstract: Non-compliance is a tenacious problem in recreational fisheries management, posing a risk to marine conservation and socio-ecological systems by, for ex le, undermining management efforts and creating conflict between resource user groups. In fisheries management, deterrence-based approaches have traditionally been used to tackle non-compliance. However, enforcement is often limited in recreational fisheries and an alternative approach is needed to improve compliance. In this paper, we explore the lessons from behavioural economics and apply nudge theory as the basis of alternative management approaches. Nudge theory argues that through positive reinforcement or indirect suggestion, voluntary compliance can be achieved. We test the influence of a nudge, based on a descriptive social norm, through an economic laboratory experiment in a recreational fisheries context. Our results show that the presence of this nudge can increase compliance behaviour by 10%. We find that a nudge was more effective when deterrence is low, but its effects become weaker when deterrence is already high. We also find heterogeneity across in idual’s responses to the nudge and risk preferences significantly related to compliance behaviour. Nudges based on social norms have the potential to complement traditional deterrence methods and could prove successful as a cost-effective compliance tool in the marine environment.
