Funded Activity Summary

HydroBox: A containerised hydrochemistry lab for Australian oceanography. This project aims to deliver a portable, sea-going laboratory for the analysis of ocean salinity, dissolved oxygen and dissolved nutrients to high analytical standards. The expected outcomes include a vast increase in the capacity to accurately measure these Essential Ocean Variables in the waters around Australia, in particular around Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, new opportunities for international collaboration and improved training of Australian students in sea-going oceanography. Significant benefits include the ability to detect early impacts of climate change on physical, chemical and biological ocean processes, and solidification of Australia’s world leading status in the field of hydrochemistry.
